Veteran actor Kabir Bedi is one of the most legendary artists in the Hindi film industry. His articulate skills and charismatic persona is difficult to beat. As he turns 77, we bring an interesting happening from his life.

In an old interview, Bedi had revealed that when he was 10 years old, he had lived in Myanmar for a few months. During his stay there, he was ordained as a Buddhist monk. To live a life of priest, the actor had to shave his head, wear a robe and wander on the streets with a bowl to get donations.

“My mother was a Buddhist nun in Tibet for the last 15 years of her life. When I was 10, I was also appointed as a monk in Burma. I spent a few months in a monastery as well. My hair were trimmed down, and I was put in a room. I had to wear a robe, roam the streets with a bowl to get donations of food from people and practice meditation for certain hours in the day. I spent one season of summer as a Buddhist monk.”

Kabir was born in a Sikh family of Lahore. His mother Freda Bedi was the first Western woman to accept ordination in Tibetan Buddhism.

Kabir got married four times. He first tied the knot with Protima Bedi. The two has daughter Pooja Bedi and late son, Siddharth. His son committed suicide in 1997. Soon after parting ways with Protima, Kabir began seeing Parveen Babi. His second wedding was with Susan Humphreys. The pair has a son named Adam Bedi. Next he married Nikki Bedi with whom he parted ways in 2005. He is now settled with Parveen Dusanj.
