Why Parvathy Supported Nayanthara Amid Legal Row With Dhanush? ‘She Wouldn’t Speak Without Purpose’

Prominent actor Parvathy has voiced her support for Nayanthara in her legal tussle with Dhanush regarding the use of footage from his production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix docuseries Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The dispute escalated after Dhanush filed a ₹10 crore lawsuit against Nayanthara for including a three-second clip from the film in the series’ trailer without his approval.

In an interview with Manorama News, Parvathy praised Nayanthara for her integrity, highlighting the thoughtfulness behind her open letter addressing the matter. “Nayanthara, a self-made woman and a Lady Superstar, wouldn’t write anything on social media without solid ground,” Parvathy said. “She wrote about her experiences in a three-page open letter. Knowing her, she wouldn’t speak without purpose. That’s when I felt the need to support her. This is a real issue. Those supporting Nayanthara believe in the truth of her letter.”

Parvathy also drew parallels to her own experiences, stating, “I understand what it is like to be unsupported. I’ve gone through it. I know how much help can influence a person. Thinking in that way, I will always support individuals like Nayanthara.”

Nayanthara’s open letter, shared on Instagram, revealed the challenges she faced in obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Dhanush for her documentary. “After two long years of battling it out with you for an NOC and waiting for your approval, we finally decided to re-edit and settle for the current version. You declined to permit the usage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan songs, visual cuts, or even photographs despite multiple requests,” she wrote.

Following her letter, Dhanush’s lawyer issued a stern response, threatening legal action unless the allegedly infringing content was removed within 24 hours. The statement warned of damages amounting to ₹10 crore if compliance was not met.

The dispute has drawn widespread attention, with several South Indian stars, including Shruti Haasan, Aishwarya Rajesh, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nazriya Fahadh, and Anupama Parameswaran, liking Nayanthara’s post in a show of solidarity.

Amid the controversy, Nayanthara expressed gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and other producers who granted permissions for footage from their films without “hesitation and delay,” contrasting their cooperation with the challenges she faced from Dhanush.
