Yash Chopra’s Wife Pamela Chopra Took Her Last Breath At The Age Of 85; Checkout Story!

Late Veteran film maker Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra passed away today in Lilavati Hospital. She was admitted in the hospital since 15 days and was on ventilator later. At the age of 74, on April 20 she breathed her last.

About Pamela:

Pamela Chopra is the mother of 2 sons – Noted film producer and director Aditya Chopra and actor Uday Chopra. She is also the mother in law of the famous actress Rani Mukherjee. She was recently seen in the Netflix documentary – Romantics in which she spoke a great deal about her marriage to Yash Chopra, her love for movies, music and fashion.

Yash and Pamela met in an arranged marriage set up through common friends and got married in the year 1970. Yash Chopra was directing movies under his brother B.R. Chopra’s banner and when Yash decided to move out and start his own production company, Pamela was his biggest support.

Pamela’s contribution to the movies:

Pamela Chopra was also an integral part of all the music selections and meetings for Yash Chopra movies. Yash Chopra would often discuss his stories and ideas with his wife before directing the film. Pamela Chopra had written the movie Kabhi Kabhie starring Rakhee, Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh which went on to become a great hit. She was the co writer of the Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor starrer Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Pamela produced the Jackie Shroff, Amrita Singh and Juhi Chawla starrer ‘Aaina’.

The Film Fraternity mourns the sudden demise of Pamela:

Shah Rukh Khan who is a close friend to the family visited the Chopra house to offer his condolences to the bereaved family.  Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal were also among the few to visit the Chopra house to offer their condolences.

Film critic Anupama Chopra tweeted that ‘Pamela Chopra was an integral part of Yash Ji’s art. She suggested the story of Kabhi Kabhie. When I wrote the DDLJ book, Aditya told me that she loved the story and her reaction gave him the confidence to make the film’.

In her latest docuseries Romantics, Pamela spoke of how much she missed her husband Yash Chopra and how watching his last film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan made her cry uncontrollably.

Pamela Chopra’s final rites took place at 11 am today at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle in the presence of her family members and close friends.
