In honour of World Mental Health Day, Yolanda Hadid spoke to Entertainment Tonight at Project Healthy Minds at Hudson Yards in New York City.

Yolanda Hadid discussed her experiences with fame and attention, as well as how her daughters Gigi and Bella handle it. Yolanda stated that her modelling career began nearly 40 years ago and was very different from what it is today. Even though she was famous at the time, she claimed that people knew she would leave for home at 5 p.m. Yolanda said that after she would leave no one would approach her or look for her.

The former model compared the modelling industry today, claiming that it isn’t the same for her daughters. This is because paparazzi are outside 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the social media aspect of it casts a whole different light on it.

She praised them by saying they are excellent at what they do. She has always encouraged them to be the best individuals they can be. Yolanda has taught them to be committed to the work they do. In the sense that they must be the first to arrive and the last to leave the room. Yolanda stated she has always taught them to be kind to everyone because it is something that people remember.

Yolanda also commented on the recent Gigi-Kanye incident, saying that her daughter does not express her feelings often, but when she does, she feels very righteous. As Yolanda continued to say, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson is someone Gigi loves and has been friends with for more than ten years. Therefore, when Kanye attacked her on social media, Gigi was outraged, which is why she spoke up.

Yolanda lastly said that she thought people had lost the art of communication about real things. Everyone is living in the fantasy world of social media where things look pristine and then trolls come after you. She said that it’s something that she feels as a society everyone should look at.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum feel that social media is used to harm each other. She explained that she has received hate online in the past and it hurts.
