‘Balance Between Creativity, Sentiments’: Censor Board Suggests Changes After ‘Besharam Rang’ Controversy!
There was a huge uproar over the song ‘Beshram Rong’ from the movie ‘Pathaan.’ Now, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has demanded “changes” in the film, including the songs. Film certification body chairperson Prasoon Joshi said that they have asked the makers of the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer to implement “changes.”
Padukone’s saffron bikini in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ recently triggered a huge controversy across the country. Many right-wing organizations as well as Hindu organizations complained that the actor’s outfit hurt “Hindu sentiments.”
Joshi said that the committee has guided the makers to apply the advised changes in the film. The changes include songs too. The makers are advised to submit the revised version prior to theatrical release. In a statement to PTI, he said that the CBFC’s aim was to strike a balance between the creativity of the makers as well as the sentiments of the audience and find a solution accordingly.
He added, “I must reiterate that our culture and faith is glorious, intricate and nuanced. And we have to be careful that it does not get defined by trivia which takes the focus away from the real and the true.” He added that the trust between creators as well as the audience is important. The creators should work towards it.
The song from the film Pathaan led to massive protests in various parts of the country. Many protested to ban the movie. Those who objected to the song and Deepika Padukone’s saffron bikini included Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad as well as the Madhya Pradesh Ulema Board.
