The year 2022 will begin with the release of producer-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s famous film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. On Thursday, Pen Marudhar Entertainment, the company going to distribute the film abroad, announced its release on 6 January 2022. With this, the first month of next year itself has become a battleground for at least three mega-budget films. Prabhas’s film ‘Radheshyam’ is already proposed to release on January 14 and Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Prithviraj’ on January 21. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is considered to be the most important film of her career for its lead actress Alia Bhatt. Both Alia’s earlier releases ‘Kalank’ and ‘Sadak 2’ failed to win the hearts of the audience. There are discussions in Mumbai that Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor might get married in December this year and if this happens, it will be Alia’s first box office test as Mrs. Kapoor.

From Bhansali’s office to the management of Pen Studios for the release date of the film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, there has been a stir for the past few days. Two days ago there was a discussion that director SS Rajamouli’s film ‘RRR’ could be released on January 14 and for this, the makers of Prabhas’s film ‘Radheshyam’ have also been approached to move their film forward. But, the matter did not work out. The distribution rights of the film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and the film ‘RRR’ are with Marudhar Entertainment and when this did not work out, the distribution company decided to release ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ on 6 January.

It is worth noting that Pen Marudhar’s parent company Pen Studios has also invested money in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. State Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took the decision to open cinema halls in Maharashtra only on the initiative of Jayanti Lal Gada, owner of Pen Studios. Before meeting Thackeray, Gada had met Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut along with representatives of the film industry. With the approval to open theaters in Maharashtra, Penn Studios has also postponed the release of its film ‘Bhavai’, proposed on October 1, till October 22. With this film, actor Prateek Gandhi is starting his innings as a lead hero in Hindi cinema.

The film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is the story of a spunky woman running a “Kotha” in the Kamathipura area of Mumbai, who had access to the then don Karim Lala of Mumbai. This story is about a naive girl from Gujarat till she becomes the mafia queen Gangubai Kathiawadi. Alia Bhatt is playing the role of Gangubai in this film. Ajay Devgn will play an important character of Karim Lala in the film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. Don Karim Lala became Gangubai’s brother by tying a rakhi. Ajay Devgn had obeyed Bhansali’s request to play this heavy character of Karim Lala.
