Babil Khan reveals that Sutapa Sikdar strongly critiqued the late Irrfan Khan’s performances in his films

Babil Khan spoke candidly with Humans of Bombay about his mother, Sutapa Sikdar, and revealed that she is their family’s harshest critic. Thinking back on it, the actor described how she had harshly criticised his late father, Irrfan Khan, for his role in the 2012 movie Paan Singh Tomar. For those who are unaware, Irrfan’s astounding performance in the same movie earned him a national award. Babil mentioned that Sutapa had given him “17 pages of criticism” regarding Irrfan’s performance. “My mom is very critical. Like, when she saw papa’s Paan Singh Tomar, she had 17 pages of criticism. So, I can’t stay in the room where mom is watching my film.”

During the same conversation, Babil revealed how his mother, Sutapa, reacted to his performance in his debut film, Qala. Speaking about the same subject, the actor revealed that his mother reacted angrily to his movie. In his own words: “She said, ‘You did good for the first time.’ That’s all she said.”

Babil on never witnessing physical affection between his parents

During the same interview, Babil discussed his conception of love and thought back on his parents’ formula. Because both of his parents were very busy with their own lives, the actor said that he never saw them show physical affection when he was growing up. Babil added that Irrfan and Sutapa were “bestest friends” and that his parents held a high regard for one another. Referring to his mother as a “queen,” Babil stated:

“My definition of love is to surrender to the innate quality of me and you. My parents were bestest friends in the world, but baba was way too busy and mom was always with me. So, I didn’t see the physical affection growing up, but I saw the respect that they had as best friends. And I saw my mother raise me, and my mother is a queen.”

Sutapa Sikdar previously talked candidly about her lovely equation with her late husband, Irrfan Khan, in an interview with Mid Day. Speaking about the same subject, she stated that their union was more akin to a collaboration. Sutapa continued, saying that they had been friends from the beginning of their journey until Irrfan passed away.
