‘Chaar Filmein Chali Hongi’: Kartik Aaryan Asks Why People Don’t Talk About Failed South Films

The heartthrob of millennials, Kartik Aaryan is not just eye candy. He has proved his acting talent and box-office stardom with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which has become the second-highest-grossing film in the Hindi Cinema this year, just below Brahmastra. After the success of his horror comedy, Aaryan went to sign some of the biggest films of his life and is still in talks for many ambitious projects. Ahead of the release of his upcoming dark thriller Freddy, Kartik opened up on the ongoing debate on North v/s South films.

Talking about it, the 32-year-old actor said that it is not specifically about south films working but about good films working. He asserted that his film “opened the gates when no other film was working and brought back ‘Housefull’ boards in cinema halls.”

“It’s an Indian film which works or does not work. This discussion has been going on for a long time and now the lines have become blurred. Drishyam 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 did great numbers,” he quoted

He also stated that people only talk about ‘four films’ that have worked and not about the flop films. “They do not talk about the films that do not work, but in this North vs South, they highlight only those that worked. Chaar filmein hongi jo chali hongi actual mein.. (there must be only four films that would have worked), but they highlight as if it’s a race going on.”

For the unversed, Bollywood is at the receiving end after the pandemic during which audiences got introduced to OTT and regional cinema. Post-Covid wave, when theatres opened, viewers started trolling Hindi films for their content and it is at this point that South films emerged as winner. They made a special place in the hearts of moviegoers. Only a few Bollywood films have made it to the list of blockbusters in 2022 while South films like RRR, KGF: Chapter 2Kantara, Ponniyin Selvan: I, etc. turned out to be gold as they churned out great numbers at the box office.
