In the presence of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, popular Punjabi musician and rapper Sidhu Moosewala joined the Congress on Friday.

After getting accepted into the party, Moosewala stated that he began his music career four years ago and was now ready to take a new step in his life. “I still Iive in the same house in my village. My father is an ex-serviceman and my mother is a sarpanch. Residents of my area, Bathinda and Mansa, are associated with me. They have expectations from me,” he said. “I am not entering politics for status or to earn praise. I want to become a part of the system to transform it. I am joining the Congress to raise the voices of the people. I am joining the Congress as the party has leaders who have come from common families. For instance, cabinet minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has risen from a common family,” he added.

Channi described Moosewala’s induction into the Congress as a “great day” in the state’s political arena, saying he “knows the views of the youth and offers them guidance.” Earlier, while welcoming Moosewala into the party, Sidhu said, “We are taking Sidhu Moosewala in party fold. He will fight the election for us.” Raja Warring played a key role in persuading Moosewala to join the Congress Party. Channi and Sidhu had a meeting with him this morning at Warring’s residence.

Last year, the Punjab police charged Moosewala with violating the Arms Act by inciting violence and gun culture in one of his songs. He had already been arrested in another instance after photos of him using an AK47 gun at a firing range during the Covid-19 pandemic went viral on social media. Before entering the Congress, Moose Wala released his latest single, “Satisfy,” around two weeks ago, in which he sings that he is content with whatever God has given him. Moose Wala is a well-known Punjabi performer who has worked in both music and film. With his song ‘So High,’ he shot to prominence in 2017. His debut album peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart in 2018. He was named one of The Guardian’s ’50 new artists for 2020′ in 2020.
