‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is a much-anticipated sci-fi movie of 2024. The upcoming movie stars Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, and Prabhas. With a previously published teaser that included some amazing visual effects and a promising ensemble, the Prabhas film has already pleased fans. During a recent conversation with students at IIT Bombay, filmmaker Nag Ashwin talked extensively about the making of the film and its background work.

In the event, a student asked about the possibility of creating a universe in the Indian movie ‘Kalki’ and if it would be similar to ‘Star Wars’. The director answered, “I don’t think so…this will be India’s K. It’s India’s Project K, India’s Kalki. It’s one film and I think that’s enough.” The filmmaker solicited recommendations from the audience for the sequel to the movie.

There were mixed comments on the design of weapons in the movie teaser. The director said, “We did not have a reference point, so it was all about trial and error for us when it came to all the props. We built the weapons from scratch instead of renting an available gun prop, slapping on two lights, and calling it a laser gun. We also did a lot of VFX to help them come to life. However, we have taken feedback into account, and they will look much better in the film than in the teaser.”

He also shared some insights about the movie’s name: “Kalki is the final avatar of Vishnu. Despite being set in the future, the film has a connection to the past that will be revealed in the film. We thought this would be an apt name.”

Trailer of the Movie

The director has hinted that the trailer for the movie will be out exactly after 93 days. While this is not an official statement, it is expected that the trailer of ‘Kalki 2989 AD’ will be released on March 31, 2024.
