In connection with the upcoming film Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar, Bollywood filmmaker and producer Karan Johar filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court on Wednesday. It is against writer-director Bablu Singh, producer India Pride Advisory, and Sanjay Singh. The movie is scheduled for release on June 14.
Karan Johar made a request for an urgent injunction against the release. In addition, the producer of the movie Kill has submitted a temporary application to halt the movie’s distribution while the legal dispute is still pending. The argument is made in front of Justice RI Chagla’s single bench.
‘Brand KJo’
The director of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani claims that he is not associated with the movie and that the producers are using his name without permission. Because Karan Johar’s name appears in the title, the film uses his name to its advantage and plays up his reputation, brand, and image.
The plea asserts that the release of public promotional materials that prominently feature Johar’s name, like the trailer and movie posters, has seriously harmed his reputation and goodwill.
He claimed that it had violated his rights to publicity, privacy, and personality. Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar does not explicitly mention Karan Johar. However, given the producer’s prominence in the media, it is clear who is being mentioned.
Karan’s Kill
On July 5, 2024, Karan Johar’s recently produced film Kill, starring Laksh Lalwani, is scheduled to hit theatres. It was dubbed “India’s most violent movie” by the producer. The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) hosted the world premiere of Kill as well last year.
Recently, he produced Siddhart Malhotra’s Yoddha and Sara Ali Khan’s Ae Watan Mere Watan. The 52-year-old producer-director has an interesting lineup in 2024 and 2025 with Takht, Bad News, Jigra, Indian 2, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and The Bull.
The famed producer donned the director’s cap in Rocky aur Rani kii Prem Kahani in 2023, after a long time.
