Chand Par Chadayee was one of the first Indian movies which had shown space exploration on-screen. The film was directed and produced by T.P Sundaram and he casted Dara Singh as the protagonist. This sci-fi film was released in 1967, just two years before Neil Armstrong put his foot on the moon. It is a story of Anand, an Astronaut who is on a mission to go to the moon but is troubled by the conflicts. Apart from Dara Singh, Padma Khanna, Anwar Hussain, and G. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect starring R Madhavan is the most recent film based on space. The film’s story is based on the life of aerospace engineer and scientist at ISRO, Nambi Narayanan who was arrested in 1994 for a false espionage case. Later, after a few months of trial, the court declared all the allegations on Nambi to be false. It is said that if Nambi had continued his profession at ISRO, India would have been far ahead as it is today. Recently, Rockery: The Nambi Effect has received the national award in the best feature film category.
Mission Mangal
Mission Mangal is a hit science-fiction movie which is based on ISRO’ s Mars mission ‘Mangalyaan’. In 2013, ISRO sent a spacecraft named ‘Mangalyaan’ in the orbit of Mars. This orbiter mission was successful and India became the first country to reach Mars orbit in its first attempt. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, and Sharman Joshi who play the role of scientists in the movie. Made on the budget of 70 crore, the film earned 300 crore at the box-office declaring it a massive hit. It is currently available on Disney plus hotstar.
Antariksham 9000 KMPH
It is a Telugu language film starring Varun Tej, Aditi Rao Hyderi and other stars in the lead role. The film is based on a fiction story in which a satellite is sent to the moon’s dark side. However, the satellite starts losing its speed due to a technical error. Dev, a scientist who has quit working at the space station 5 years, is called to fix the problem as only he knows the code of the system. This science fiction movie, released in 2018 collected 19 crore out of 30 crore budget and was a flop.
Koi Mil Gaya
Koi Mil Gaya is a fiction film which focuses on the story of an alien ‘Jaadu’ who has come from outer space. The infamous film showcases the relationship between Rohit Verma played by Hritik Roshan and Jaadu. Koi Mil Gaya had become a massive hit in 2003, following which its Sequel Krish and Krish 3 were also released later. Bollywood actresses Preity Zinta and Rekha have also played significant roles in the movie.
