Ratna and Naseeruddin Shah’s love story dates back to 1975 when both actors worked together in the theatre play called Sambhog Se Sanyas Tak. After dating for a while the duo tied the knot in 1982.

 

Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseeruddin Shah have been married for more than 40 years and are parents to children Imaad and Vivaan. In a recent interview with ETimes, Ratna opened up about her relationship with Naseeruddin. She said ” We were friends, we were working together at the place and we were in contact and getting to know each other. At some point in time, we decided that we like each other enough to spend more time with each other. That’s how it happened, and fortunately, it has been good for us. It has been 40 plus years of togetherness girls top”. 

 

Recalling her wedding day Ratna Pathak said “We had a fantastic wedding. One was probably one of few marriages that I attended. Where the bride and groom both had fun. We had a ball at our wedding. We went to the beach and drank wine and had a great time. There were no rituals and no Rona dhona. I  remember when I left my mom’s place we were all singing the song together. Naseer and  I were also singing a whole lot of bidai songs. So of course I want that for my kids but both of them are not showing any signs of marriage!”

Naseeruddin Shah became active in mainstream Bollywood cinema with the 1980 film Hum Paanch. 

Ratna Pathak acted in the hit comedy sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai where she played the high society elite, for which she received the ITA award for best actress. 

During the 70s and 80s Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak co-star in several films including Mirch Masala and The Perfect Murder. They were in a live-in relationship for many years.
