He said that during this festival, the independent filmmakers who have won, it is only their victory. Such award-winning films are not given any special support by the government. He said, “There was nothing special for India in Cannes, none of those winning films are Indian. Such cinema is not supported in India, as the films shown in Cannes are not supported.”

Payal Kapadia became the first Indian director to win the Grand Prix for her film “All We Imagine as Light”. Apart from her, Anasuya Sengupta won the Best Actress award in the Un Certain Regard strand for “The Shameless”. At the same time, FTII student Chidanand S. Naik won the Best Short Film award in the La Cinéf section for “Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know”.
