Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid has caused a stir on internet after passing negative comments on the Indian film, The Kashmir Files at the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). He remarked the movie as ‘propaganda and vulgar’ in the presence of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur.
Condemning the inclusion of Vivek Agnihotri’s film in the prestigious festival, Lapid who is also the jury head of IFFI, 2022 stated, “All of us were disturbed and shocked by the movie The Kashmir Files. It felt to us like a propaganda, vulgar movie that was inappropriate for an artistic, competitive section of such a prestigious film festival. I feel comfortable to share open the feelings with you since the spirit of the festival can truly accept critical discussion.”
As soon as Nadav’s comment on The Kashmir Files went viral on social media, netizens started bashing him for his words. Actor Anupam Kher and Darshan Kumar, who played pivotal roles in the movie also expressed their anger at the director.
Taking to Twitter, Kher shared a collage of pictures from his film and wrote, “No matter how high the height of the lie is.. It is always small in comparison to the truth.”
Kumar spoke to a leading portal and called out Nadav. He stated, Everyone has their own individual opinions on anything they see and perceive… But one can’t deny the fact is that The Kashmir files is a film which has depicted the actual plight of Kashmiri pandit community… who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism… so this film is not on vulgarity but on reality.”
For the unversed, The Kashmir Files is based on the true story of ‘Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits’ during 1990.
