Kate Winslet Likely To Never Come Back To Big Screens: ‘I Love Doing TV’
Kate Winslet is bang with a bang with HBO’s “The Regime,” which premiered on March 3rd. The “Titanic” star has found a new sense of freedom when working on television. She says that she “loves” her TV projects. Experts weigh in that this could mean a long departure from films and doubt if she will ever return to the big screen.
Shifted Focus from Cinema
Kate’s newest passion is TV and look at how she has embraced it! On OTT space, she featured in Prime Video’s limited series “Mare of Easttown.” She was also an executive producer on the show, as she is for “The Regime.” In her view, television gives her ample creative freedom, which is lacking in filmmaking.
She has also cut down her film shoots, which makes us believe she wants to distance herself from traditional cinematic endeavours. In the new political drama “The Regime,” she plays Chancellor Elena Vernham. The acclaimed actress admits that she likes the detailed structure of the project.
Kate Winslet Prefers TV over Cinema
Kate candidly admits, “When you hold a film script, it’s maybe 100-125 pages thick. But one episode of The Regime or Mare was 60 pages long. So, it’s 360 pages of just pure delight.” For the Academy Award-winning star, that is the real joy. “It’s an indulgence because you get so much more story, you get more to play with.”
Besides, there is more bonding with the crew members and co-actors, says Kate Winslet. TV’s collaborative nature provides for deeper connections and an enhanced work environment and get a better overall experience.
The “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” actress emphasises that with longer shoots, everyone gets along more. “You find the right rhythm and properly listen to one another to include everyone’s voices. And, you can’t judge. You have to kind of roll with whatever people are bringing into the room each day.”
Safe Space for Intimate Scenes
Kate also revealed that studio execs take unusual measures today to ensure that actors are comfortable doing intimate scenes. Shooting for ridiculous sex scenes in the TV show made her laugh. In one scene, Elena (Kate’s character) has to be intimate with her “guru” and what ensues on the set is hilarious.
Although they were both handling it well, some moments turned funny as Matthias Schoenaerts, her scene partner, had fake tattoos. “He was getting sweatier and sweatier. The fake tattoos kept rubbing off on parts of my body like I’ve got the newspaper printed on me.”
People on the set were laughing and got sent away repeatedly. “It was kind of a problem,” she giggled. As she shines in the volatile character of Eleana, Kate Winslet can’t stop talking about her love for television. “All that I can say is I loved playing Elena. I love doing television, I love working with HBO.” For now, her heart seems to be set.
