King Charles III Diagnosed With Cancer; Remains ‘Wholly Positive’ And ‘Delighted’

To prioritize his health, King Charles is starting regular cancer treatments and will be delaying his public engagements.

A cancer diagnosis has been made for King Charles III. The 75-year-old monarch’s health was revealed by Buckingham Palace in a statement on Monday, February 5.

The Statement from the Palace

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement said. “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.”

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention. It was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” the statement concluded.

Hospitalized for surgery prior to before over of cancer 

King Charles had surgery in January to treat an enlarged prostate, and now he has been diagnosed with cancer. Charles will be hospitalized for the procedure, as announced in a statement published by Buckingham Palace on January 17. “His Majesty’s condition is benign, and he will attend the hospital next week for a corrective procedure,” the palace stated. “The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

On January 29, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles had been released from the hospital that day and was starting “a period of private recuperation.” According to a statement posted on the Royal Family’s Instagram account, Charles was “delighted that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

Queen Camilla, the 76-year-old wife of Charles, accompanied him on his discharge from the hospital.
