Lindsay Lohan, the “The Parent Trap” child actor who was a Hollywood sweetheart for years, took a career break. But now she is back with a cameo in Tina Fey’s 2024 film “Mean Girls” the musical reboot of the original. Lohan reveals the reason she quit her home and a bustling career in Hollywood.
From child model to superstar in Hollywood
At the age of 3, Lindsay started modelling, which paved the way for her entry into Tinseltown. With “The Parent Trap” remake in 1998, she secured a top spot in the industry. Then, “Freaky Friday, “Mean Girls,” and other Disney films came along, making her a well-known face in every household.
Between 2004 and 2007, she also released 2 albums, worked in 12 movies, and stayed in the public eye. Lindsay Lohan was also famous for her personal relationships and legal troubles. It was then that she quit the film industry and has been living in Dubai for several years with her husband and newborn son.
Comeback after almost a decade
Lohan first moved to London as her Hollywood life left her stressed out. She admits, “I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that’s kind of annoying.” And she wanted to disappear, which is why she feels safe in Dubai, where they ban the paparazzi.
The movie field left her out of control like everything was spinning around her. Media speculations, constant coverage in the tabloids, and privacy invasion were something she could not handle. People only focused on stories involving her and not her work. “I feel like that kind of took on a life of its own. I wish that part didn’t happen.”
Social media is strong today
Lindsay admires how today’s social media users take control of their narrative. “Social media is so different now than when I was younger, that everyone has control of their own story.” In that way, younger stars have an advantage now.
However, she doesn’t pay much attention to cover stories because she knows how they work. “I don’t pay attention to that. I don’t read stuff that comes out either… And if you immerse yourself in that stuff, you’re just going to get lost, and it can just do so much to you.”
Lindsay Lohan about motherhood
Lindsay shares an 8-year-old son Luai with her financier husband Bader Shammas. The 37-year-old actress agrees that motherhood impacts career moves while enjoying this new role as a parent.
However, she also wants another kid. “Having a baby, you’re like, ‘Oh, I want another.’,” she laughs. Lindsay Lohan has four siblings, and she wishes that Luai could also experience that bond. Her latest film “Irish Wish” is streaming on Netflix.
