Republic Day releases in Bollywood are always historical. Firstly, it’s a holiday, and most movies want to cash on the holiday season.

Secondly, there is a lot of hype around Republic Day movie releases. In the past, there have been clashes due to this date. Amid all this, some movies did rule the box office on Republic Day.

Padmaavat

The movie came in 2018 on the occasion of Republic Day. Though many controversies surrounded the story, still the response was good.

It was one of the highest-grossers of the year. The movie was a blockbuster! Also, the actors received many awards for portraying the characters with ease.

Airlift 

Airlift came in 2016 during Republic Day weekend. Akshay Kumar had a lot of expectations from the movie. Though it had good reviews, it went on to collect more than 100+ crores.

It was not a major blockbuster like his previous movies. The best part – is that the movie provoked a sense of patriotic feelings in fans.

Agneepath 

The movie came in 2012 and was the most talked about movie at that time. Well, there was a lot of anticipation as Hrithik was portraying the role of Amitabh Bachchan in Part 2.

It went on to collect 100+ crores and got critical acclaim – Hrithik also received praise for his performance.

Raees 

Raees came in 2017 and was Shah Rukh’s finest performance. It garnered lots of positive reviews and critical acclaim.

This movie also did a business of 100+ crores. However, it had to clash with Hrithik’s Kaabil. Both the movies had a decent run at the box office.

Republic Day releases are special. Most producers choose the date to encash the sentiments of the fans.
