‘Not Interested In Remakes’: Rishab Shetty On Kantara Hindi Remake, Read Inside

Rishab Shetty and his movie Kantara became the talk of the town ever since it got released. When asked about his take on making its Hindi remake, he gave a big No in response. He simply stated that the makers of Bollywood will not understand the roots of such folklore. The belief in the culture is what makes this movie iconic and not everyone can portray this type of cinematography again.

He said to appeal to a wider audience it is important to stay familiar with the culture of the region where you belong to. Bollywood has forgotten its roots, in an attempt of creating western influence for the masses. The time has changed, people have started showing interest in cultural cinematography and Bollywood is lagging behind.

He quoted, “Too much western influence and consumption of Hollywood and other content has led to filmmakers trying to do the same in India. But why are you trying that? People are already getting that in Hollywood, and they are doing it better in terms of quality, storytelling and performances.”

“To play such characters you have to believe in the roots and culture. There are many big actors in the Hindi film industry whom I admire. But I am not interested in remakes,” he said. Rishab’s work in Kantara got him appreciation from everyone in the film industry. Originally made in Kannada this movie became the highest-grossing movie of 2022. The word of mouth made it an underdog within a few days of release.

The movie was based on the folklore of coastal Karnataka and the thrill it becomes as the story unfolds. It is the second highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time. His statement clearly shows how Bollywood has lost its charm from recreating western influence and continues declining from its remake culture going on.
