‘Personal Choice’: Netizens Hit Back At Asha Parekh For Her Take On Clothing Choices Of ‘Fat’ Indian Women!

Veteran star Asha Parekh ruled over the Hindi Cinema between the 60s and 80s. She recently attended the 53rd International Film Festival of India in Goa where three of her classics- Do Badan, Kati Patang and Teesri Manzil were being screened there. While speaking at a session, Parekh commented on the sartorial choices of Indian women.

She said that nowadays, women in India are more inclined towards western dressing. Furthermore, she fat-shamed them and stated that even if women are slightly heavy, they opt for western gowns nd not Indian traditional wear.

Now, these statements by the yesteryear actress has not gone down well with netizens. They are bashing her brutally for having such a narrow mindset. focusing more on western ideas and not putting out our own culture enough in reel as well as real life.

A user wrote, #ashaparekh is trending on Twitter with netizens lashing out at her saying being a veteran how she could fat-shame women. One Twitter user shared Asha’s photo and wrote, “Wearing a #Dress is a personal choice a #Woman makes, surprised that a #Veteran like #ashaparekh making comments #bodyshaming #Women and advising #IndianWomen what they should wear in our #IndianWeddings – least expected of her to make comments like this..sad actually indeed…….”

Another penned, “Asha ji …!!! Of all the people you are saying this??? Are you really fatshaming women who want to wear what they want to at their own weddings? Should we now go and compare you to ur contemporaries??? We won’t cause we aren’t you!.”

A third user dug out a picture of Asha with Helen in western wear to take a dig at her thoughts. “Log purane ho sakte hain, soch nayi honi chahiye. Asha Ji aapse yeh asha nahi thi,” stated another netizen.

For the unversed, Asha Parekh quoted, “Everything has changed (since the time she worked in films). The films that are being made are …I do not know, we are so westernized. Gowns pehen k wedding pe aa rahi hain ladkiyan. Arre bhaiya, humari ghaghra choli, saariyan aur salwar-kameez hai aap wo pehno na. Why don’t you wear those?”

“Screen pe dekh ke wo jo kapde pehen rahe us tarah ke kapde hum bhi pehnenge …mote ho, ya jo, hum wahi phnenge,” she added.
