Bollywood star couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh arrived at the controversial reality show, ‘Koffee With Karan 8’. The couple spilled beans about their chemistry and early romance. Ranveer Singh discussed how he proposed the love of his life, Deepika Padukone and how her parents reacted to it. For those who are unaware, Ranveer proposed to Deepika in 2015 amidst the sea. After almost six years of dating each other, the duo got married in 2018 at a destination wedding in Italy. Ranveer revealed how Deepika Padukone’s mother, Ujjala reacted when he proposed her daughter.
Ranveer-Deepika’s love story began after he took crab piece from her mouth
Deepika and Ranveer met on the sets of the film ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ for the first time. While narrating the love story, Ranveer revealed that during a lunch break, the film’s cast members were served some crab meal. He noticed that a piece of crab was stuck in Deepika’s mouth. After he pointed out at her, Deepika asked him to clean it. Ranveer said:
“She was sitting right next to me, and Mr. Bhansali obviously wanted to treat us, make a lunch out of this. So there were all these delicacies, and there was crab as well. So we were all eating crab.” (Pointing at Deepika’s smile) Like this, she was smiling and I noticed a piece of crab was stuck over here (in the corner of her gum). ‘Really? Clean it.’ I felt a 440-volt jolt that day. And I feel the tremors of that jolt till date.”

It was after the crab incident when the couple started to fall for each other. Furthermore in the same conversation, Ranveer disclosed that while they were holidaying in the Maldives, he had setup a plan to propose Deepika along the seashore. He felt himself on the seventh cloud after Deepika said yes to his proposal. In Ranveer’s words:
“We were going to take a holiday and I decided that I would propose to her on the holiday. I got the ring and we go to the Maldives and I secretly carry the ring with me and we do the sandbank adventure. So, it was just her and me in the middle of the sea. I popped the question, gave her the ring, she did not expect it, and she got emotional. And that was it, she said yes and I felt like the king of the world and then we were engaged.”

Deepika revealed the proposal incident to her parents, Prakash Padukone and Ujjala Padukone. Like every other man, Ranveer too looked jittery about Deepika’s parents’ reaction. Recalling the time, Ranveer expressed that he was standing outside a room to eavesdrop the conversation happening between Deepika and her mother. Mentioning how Ujjala was shocked to know Ranveer’s proposal to her daughter, he revealed:
“And I was like ‘don’t. Don’t even think of it’. Then, suddenly, absolutely out of nowhere, she was like ‘you know he proposed marriage to me and I said yes.’ I got into their room in their Banglore home and I put my ear to the door and outside Amma and Deepika are having it out. She’s saying, ‘who is this guy? He proposed marriage and you said yes also?’ And I was like ‘Please God help me’. It took a lot of work on my part to place for myself in Amma’s heart and now I think I’m one of her favourite people in the whole world.”
