Robert Downey Jr Faces Backlash For Ignoring Ke Huy Quan On Stage, Labelled As ‘Rude’, ‘Egocentric’

Robert Downey Jr. is facing backlash on the internet for seemingly ignoring Ke Huy Quan while collecting his Oscar for Oppenheimer.

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest Hollywood stars. He recently added another feather to his hat by winning his first Academy Award on Sunday. Past winners introduce the nominees. Last year’s Oscar winner in the same category, Ke Huy Quan, presented the award to RDJ for his performance in Oppenheimer. But eagle-eyed netizens have noticed that it was Taylor Swift and Celine Dion moments all over.

The Oscars

The charisma, swagger, and ability to win over anyone are hallmarks of RDJ. In the film directed by Christopher Nolan, the actor gave one of his best performances as Lewis Strauss. The film won seven trophies, and the big prizes of the evening went to the golden trio of Ryan Reynolds, Cillian Murphy, and Christopher Nolan.

Netizens, however, believe Downey disregarded Quan during the performance. For his performance in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ last year, the actor was awarded Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

What Happened?

The people love Ke Huy Quan. His appearance as OB in the popular Marvel series Loki in Season 2 has increased his fanbase even more. Robert Downey Jr.’s name was announced, and he went on stage at the Oscars in 2024.

Quan presented the trophy to him. But he seemingly ignored Quan. However, he went for a handshake with Tim Robbins. The video clip went viral on social media platform X, and people are unhappy with RDJ’s behaviour.

Internet’s Reaction

The internet is angry over Robert Downey Jr.’s alleged disrespectful behaviour towards Ke Huy Quan. They have labelled the former as rude.

One of the users said, “You cannot expect much from the least classy guy in Hollywood.”

Another wrote, “The ego and blatant disregard are disgusting.”

Followed by one stating, “Is it surprising? RDJ sucks.”

One referred to the Grammy situation and penned, “Taylor and Celine all over again.”

One user commented, “He is never beating the racist allegations.”

A Few Moments Later…

Amongst all the criticism, one defended Robert Downey Jr. and wrote, “In all fairness, he had just gone through the unnecessary public humiliation at the hands of American James Corden, aka Jimmy Kimmel.”

Another fan posted pictures of RDj and Ke Huy Quan embracing each other backstage moments later.
