Bollywood veteran Naseeruddin Shah is not just known for his sheer brilliance on the silver screen but also for his honest views on the changes in industry over time. Recently, he addressed a crowd of people during a prestigious event Jashn-e-Rekhta. During the conversation, Shah talked about how Urdu language has taken a backseat in Hindi cinema nowadays.

Naseeruddin said that nothing in Hindi films has changed for better. Rather, it has changed for the worst. He feels that at present vulgar words are used in Bollywood and there is no usage of Urdu words. Besides this, movies lack substance. The actor also expressed his displeasure over films making fun of all communities in India. He said that Hindi movies have not spared Sikhs, Christians, Muslims, Parsis, etc.

Naseeruddin stated, “Satyanash hogaya hai. Earlier, when the censor board certificate had Urdu mentioned as the language. The reason was lyrics of songs were in that language and the writers mostly had Persian background. Ab to behuda alfaaz hote hai. The current situation is such that no one even cares about the title of the film, and most of them are taken from old songs.”

Talking about how films make ridicule different communities living in India and create stereotypes too, the actor quoted, “They mock Sikhs, Christians. Muslim man is always hero’s best friend who dies while saving him in the end. But he dies nonetheless.”
