Currently, Shilpa Shetty is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. But in her career spanning over two decades, the actress has been a part of many hit films of Bollywood. She has played some characters that are still etched in our hearts. One such role by Shilpa Shetty is Anjali from her successful film Dhadkan. The film has recently completed 21 years of its release. It featured Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty besides Shilpa Shetty. The film was a huge hit due to its music, the performance of the actors, and the storyline.
The film entailed a love triangle between the lead characters. It begins with two star-crossed lovers getting separated from each other. When they meet after three years in a totally different set of circumstances, they get engulfed by nostalgia and anguish.
But do you know that the ending of Dhadkan was different from what we saw in theatres? Dev played by Suniel Shetty, was originally supposed to die when he came to know about Anjali’s pregnancy. But, at the last moment, the makers decided to change it.
In the climax that we witnessed in theatres, we get to see the villain (Suniel Shetty aka Dev) changing for good and leaving his ex-girlfriend (Shilpa Shetty aka Anjali) to live her life peacefully with her husband (Akshay Kumar aka Ram). Towards the end, when Anjali reveals to Dev that she is carrying Ram’s child in her womb, he walks away from the couple’s life, finding happiness in his business partner and lover, Sheetal played by Mahima Chaudhry.
Talking about the original ending, Shilpa had once revealed, that in the film’s climax, Dev was supposed to die when he came to know about Anjali’s pregnancy. However, the makers didn’t want a tragic ending and hence, the climax was changed so that the audience could leave the theatre with a smile.
Taking down the memory lane, Shilpa had said, “The end of the film was not the one that was shown. There is a scene where Suniel says that ‘Agar tum mujhse door chali gayi to mere dil ki dhadkan khud ba khud ruk jayegi’. So, in the end when I confront him and reveal that I am going to be the mother of Ram’s child. (What was supposed to happen was that) Suniel is sitting on a sofa and he dies (after hearing the news) because he realizes that Anjali is actually gone. That was the original end, which wasn’t shot. He (Suniel) was the real hero.”
The actress also had said that the film was their own Mughal-E-Azam because it took five years to complete.
