Superman Jon Kent Officially Comes Out As Bisexual
DC Comics reveal latest Superman character is bisexual
DC comics say the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane Kent is coming out as bisexual. DC Comics made the announcement on National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBTQ awareness day started in the US.
In its next comic book, Jon will be pictured in a same-sex relationship with his friend Jay Nakamura. The character goes in a bold new direction
“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” Taylor said in a statement. Tom Taylor (“Dark Knights of Steel”) wrote, “Superman: Son of Kal-El #5,” and John Timms (“Harley Quinn”) is the artiste.
Taylor added: “Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth, and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.” In the issue, Jon Kent’s Superman will find comfort in Jay’s arms after he’s totally wrung out from trying to save the world.
The story is unfolding, according to a press release, “in the main continuity of the DC Multiverse”, reports variety.com.
According to a blog by DC publicity, John Kent has fallen for a reporter. Just like his dad after initially striking up a friendship with Jay Nakamura. Jon Kent, currently known as “the Superman of Earth”, will come out in the November 9 issue of “Superman: Son of Kal-El #5” when he starts a romantic relationship with reporter Jay Nakamura indicating the Kryptonian apple does not fall far from the tree, reports variety.com.
Nakamura and Kent are certainly not the only queer characters in the DC universe. Batwoman, also known as Kate Kane, Tim Drake, one of the many Robins to fight with Batman, and Harley Quinn are among other LGBTQ characters.
