Sydney Sweeney Rebuts Negative Reviews For ‘Madame Web’: ‘I Was Just Hired As An Actress In It’

The theatrical release of ‘Madame Web’ took place one month ago today. The superhero movies star Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, and Celeste O’Connor. Critics overwhelmingly gave the film unfavorable reviews. The female superhero saga failed to impress even the audience.

The announcement of “Madame Web,” directed by S.J. Clarkson, thrilled everyone to see Spider-Women on the big screen. Nevertheless, the three girls—who were meant to be Spider-women—had no powers until the very end of the film, and the main focus of the film was Dakota Johnson’s Cassie Webb. Sydney Sweeney, an actress who plays Julia Carpenter in the movie, has now spoken out regarding the movie’s lack of success.

Sydney on film’s failure

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sydney Sweeney was asked how Madame Web was mocked after its release. The actress reacted and said, “I was just hired as an actress in it. So, I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.” Earlier, Sydney even mocked the film’s fate on Saturday Night Live (SNL). In her monologue, Sydney joked that people must have seen her in Anyone But You and Euphoria, but definitely not in Madame Web. No affect on Sydney’s career

Despite the superhero movie’s failure to capture the public’s attention, Sydney Sweeney’s career remains unaffected. Both critics and fans praised her 2023 romantic comedy, Anyone But You, starring Glen Powell. The film did well at the box office as well. A sequel to the romantic comedy has been hinted at by Sydney and Glen.

More On Sydney’s Workfront

Currently, the actress is engaged in the promotion of her upcoming movie, Immaculate. It’s a psychological horror film helmed by Michael Mohan. In the movie, Sydney Sweeney plays a nun. It also stars Money Heist actor Alvaro Morte.

The horror film is set to release on March 22 in US theatres. The actress is also a part of Euphoria Season 3, which stars Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Eric Dane, and others. Created by Sam Levinson, the cast hasn’t started filming for the third season yet.
