District Jail Panipat celebrated the release of the theme song of the jail on the occasion of Nelson Mandela Day. Prepared under the aegis of Tinka Tinka Foundation, this song is written and composed by Kashish, an inmate lodged in District Jail Panipat. The lyrics of the song are-“ Tinka Jail Radio ye lekar aaya hai, nayi aashaye nayi umange saath laaya hai, jisko sunkar man mein khushiya cha jayengi, Panipat Jail Radio aavaj laya hai. Kuch naya sikhane ko yahan par he milega, kuch banne ka mauka bhi yahan par milega, soch badal jayegi tu khush ho jayga, Panipat Jail Radio aavaj laya hai.”
Kashish is a Radio Jockey
21 years old Kashish is lodged in District Jail Panipat for nearly two years now. He was one of the five inmates selected as a Radio Jockey for the Haryana Jail Radio in 2020. This is the first time that Kashish has received recognition as an RJ and a singer. Dr. Vartika Nanda, the founder of Tinka Foundation, today released his song on YouTube. This song will be played in all the jails of Haryana through jail radio, so that the inmate population get an inspiration.
Musical experiments in Jail
This experiment is a part of Jail Radio conceptualized and initiated in Haryana jails by prison reformer Dr. Vartika Nanda. 21 inmates from three jails of Haryana were chosen in the first phase. There are 19 prisons in Haryana, out of which 7 have already started the jail radio. Since 2020, 47 inmates have been trained as radio jockeys. Haryana’s first Jail Radio was inaugurated at District Jail Panipat by the Jail Minister Shri Ranjit Singh.
Cheering the effort
Vartika Nanda said, “We have recently released songs from Central Jail Ambala and District Jail Rohtak. The entire experiment is proving to be magical. Our radio jockeys are writing new chapters of communication. This is part of our Tinka Model of Prison Reforms which will be released by the end of the year.“

Tinka Tinka is set to release a musical album from the jails of Haryana shortly. Previous two songs from Haryana jails were shared and commented by former Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan on his various social media accounts last month.
About Dr. Vartika Nanda
Vartika Nanda is a prison reformer. Tinka Tinka is her series on Indian jails. In 2019, she started radio in District Jail, Agra, located in the oldest jail building in the country. She has been honoured with the Stree Shakti Award from President of India in 2014. Her work on prisons has twice found a place in the Limca Book of Records. Currently, she heads the Department of Journalism in Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi.
