Throwback To When Gauri Had Said, ‘Aryan is so into Shah Rukh that I feel he would follow his religion’

Bollywood’s power couple Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh Khan is having a tough time at present. The two are devastated after their son Aryan Khan’s arrest by the anti-drugs agency, the Narcotics Control Bureau. Currently, many statements by Gauri and Shah Rukh in the past are re-surfacing online. One of the clips that are doing the rounds on the internet is related to Gauri’s views on the difference in religion between her and Khan.

We are all aware how Gauri and SRK have never allowed religion to become a matter of concern in their relationship. The two keep a balance and make sure to celebrate festivals of both religions equally. Gauri who is a Hindu by birth tied the knot with college sweetheart SRK, who hails from a Muslim family in 1991. The couple has been in a blissful marriage for the last 30 years. The two have 3 children – Aryan, Suhana and AbRam. And although the children have ‘Khan’ surname, they have been inculcated with the belief in secularism and worship of all Gods with equal respect. They have been taught to celebrate Eid, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, and all the other festivals with an equal amount of love and enthusiasm.

Back in 2004, during an appearance on Koffee With Karan season 1, Gauri had commented on the impact of religious differences on their kids. When the star wife was asked to comment on how the inter-caste marriage impacts their children, she had quipped that she feels Aryan might grow up to practice SRK’s religion since he’s so “into him.”

Gauri Khan had said, “Shah Rukh, he doesn’t have parents, unfortunately. If they were there, the elderly people in the house, they would have taken care. But, it’s nothing like that in our house. It’s me who takes charge be it Diwali or Holi or any festival. So that’s why influence on my kids would be a lot with the Hindu part of the … but the thing is that Aryan is so into Shah Rukh that he would follow his religion, I feel. He would always say ‘I am a Muslim’. When he tells this to my mother, she gets, ‘what do you mean?’.”

In the same conversation, Gauri had also asserted on not converting to Muslim. “There is a balance, I respect Shah Rukh’s religion but that doesn’t mean that I would convert and become a Muslim. I don’t believe in that. I think everybody is an individual and follows their religion. But, obviously, there should be no disrespect. Like Shah Rukh would not disrespect my religion as well”, she had said.

Earlier, Shah Rukh too has reiterated the same thing. He has gone on record to state that he and Gauri have taught their children that their religion is ‘Hindustani (Indian)’. “In school, you know how we have to fill out forms and they ask for religion? When my daughter was young, she asked me what religion we belong to and I told her that we are Indians and have no religion”, Shah Rukh had shared in one of his interviews.

For the unversed, Aryan Khan has been sent into 14 days custody for his alleged involvement in purchasing, selling and consuming illegal drugs.
