Popularly known as her character Komolika, Urvashi Dholakia recently opened up about getting married at the young age of 16 and going through a divorce within a couple of years.
Actor Urvashi Dholakia, who became a household name after playing the role of Komolika in the popular TV show Kausautii Zindagii Kayy, recently opened up about getting married at the young age of 16 and going through a divorce within a couple of years. She shared that her twin sons, who were born a year after her marriage, never asked her anything about their father. Also, her former husband never tried to contact her to find out about their sons.
Urvashi Dholakia on her past life and ex-husband
In a recent interview Urvashi revealed that at 16, she wanted to live a ‘fairytale’ life and didn’t want to work. She had started her acting journey as a child artist when she was just 6. She said, “I was madly in love. Also, at that time, as a woman, the constitution of marriage was instilled in you. My mother came from a conservative mindset and she was clear, ‘Be independent, but you should get married.’ Society was like that at that time. I was 16 and was not mature enough.”
The actor revealed that she knew her former husband for almost one and a half years before marriage. She continued, “I was like I don’t want to work now, I want a Cinderella life now. But then the bubble burst, though I didn’t let it get to me. I was married at 16, had twins at 17, and got divorced at 18.”
Urvashi talks on being single mother
At this difficult phase of her life, Urvashi found support in her parents. “Nobody supports you in your time of need more than your parents.” She got back to work at 19 as she had to look after her kids and not be a “burden” on her parents. But finding work again was not easy for her as people took “advantage” of her ‘vulnerable’ situation and paid her less than what she deserved. Still, the actor took up work and once again found her footing in the industry.
Urvashi also revealed that since her divorce, she has never spoken to her former husband. Also, her sons, Kshitij Dholakia and Sagar Dholakia, have never met their father. “They also don’t want to know about him. We have tried to make them know about him, but they have always said, ‘We don’t want to know.’”
