Vicky Kaushal, the celebrated Bollywood actor, and his brother Sunny Kaushal, a rising star in his own right, recently graced ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ with their presence. They shared some captivating tales from their childhood, painting a vivid picture of their bond. They revealed that their mother, Veena Kaushal, often disciplined them with a good beating, a practice that continues to this day. Their father, a renowned Bollywood action director, Sham Kaushal, reserved his punishments for ‘special occasions.’

The Regular Punishments For The Special Occasions

“Did anyone of you get beaten up at home?”

Archana Puran Singh questioned the brothers during the show, and both admitted to it. Vicky added that their mother disciplined them regularly. Sunny interjected, confirming that she still does. Vicky humorously described

“It happens quite often that she’ll go (gestures with a slapping hand). But for Dad, there used to be a couple of important events every year. And they came about four to five times a year. They would be important and memorable ones.”

The Kaushal Brothers’ Childhood Antics

Sunny shared a particularly amusing aspect of his brother’s personality from childhood his tendency to talk in his sleep.

He shared, “As a child, he (Vicky) would talk in his sleep. People usually blabber in their sleep, he used to give an entire performance. I would get confused if he is awake or asleep. I still remember, one night I was going to sleep and he had slept 45 minutes before me, so he was in deep sleep. We used to share a room. He suddenly threw his blanket away and said, ‘Check it.’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘I am done with my paper, check it.

He also revealed that Vicky Kaushal used to talk in his sleep with his eyes open. If he attempted to wake Vicky, he would startle, and hence Sunny had to engage in a conversation until Vicky slept.”

Vicky also recalled, “This happened with my mom as well. I was sleeping and I got up saying, ‘He snatched your purse.’ Mom didn’t know about my condition, she went like, ‘Who?'”

The Kaushal Family’s Humble Beginnings

Vicky comes from a tight-knit Punjabi family. His parents came from a tiny hamlet in Punjab and settled in Mumbai, a busy city, they could live comfortably. Vicky was born in a ‘chawl’ [low-income tenements] like a 10×10 square feet area. His father, mom, his brother (Sunny), and he lived in that space.
