Rumors circulated recently suggesting that the film starring Vijay Deverakonda had been shelved due to budget constraints. Following his last film, “Liger,” which received a lukewarm response at the box office, there were speculations about the actor’s upcoming projects. Particularly, there were talks of his collaboration with Gowtam Tinnanuri, the director of “Jersey,” being canceled. However, the actor’s team has refuted these claims, asserting that the project is still in progress.
It’s not true
The news about the film being shelved gained traction when Telugu 360 reported on X that the project, announced in January the previous year, faced delays and budget constraints, leading to its cancellation. In response, Vijay Deverakonda’s team promptly addressed the speculations, with one team member stating, “Not true… !! Shoot will resume very soon. #VD12,” and another commenting, “Not true. The shoot will restart as soon as #FamilyStar shoot is done. The schedule is being planned from the first week of March 2024.”
About #VD12
The untitled film marks Gowtam Tinnanuri’s next project following the Telugu and Hindi versions of the sports drama Jersey. Initially featuring Vijay and Sreeleela in the lead roles, rumors circulated that Sreeleela left the project. Speculation suggests that Vijay’s rumored girlfriend, Rashmika Mandanna, might be considered for the role, though no official announcement has been made by the makers. The period drama showcases Vijay as a spy, and the released posters have generated interest in the film. Shooting is expected to resume in March after Vijay completes his ongoing commitments.
Upcoming work
Vijay Deverakonda was initially set to star in another project directed by Puri Jagannadh titled JGM, but the film has been put on hold following the release of Liger. Meanwhile, Puri is engaged in working on the sequel to iSmart Shankar titled Double iSmart, featuring Ram Pothineni. Currently, Vijay is actively shooting for Family Star alongside director Parasuram Petla and co-star Mrunal Thakur. Originally scheduled for a Sankranthi release, the film has been postponed due to delays in shooting schedules and is now anticipated to hit screens in the summer.
