At the age of 13, King Virbhadra Singh was the first to assume the throne of Bushahr princely state. Virbhadra Singh took the throne in the year 1947 after the death of Raja Padmadev Singh of Bushahr princely state. In independent India, where the monarchy system had ended, despite this, Raja Virbhadra Singh was crowned according to the traditions. Virbhadra Singh’s last rites will be performed in Rampur on Saturday. Before this, his heir Tika Vikramaditya Singh will be crowned and after placing him on the throne, Virbhadra Singh will be cremated in Rampur. There was a wave of mourning in the entire Rampur princely state as soon as the news of his death was received. His supporters had started gathering in the Raj Darbar complex since morning.
Virbhadra Singh was married twice. His first marriage took place at the age of 20 with Ratan Kumari, the princess of Jubbal. But after a few years, Ratan Kumari died. After this, in 1985, he married Pratibha Singh. Pratibha Singh has also been an MP from Mandi. Vikramaditya Singh, son of Virbhadra and Pratibha is also presently MLA from Shimla Rural.

Virbhadra Singh holds the record of becoming Chief Minister a maximum of six times in Himachal. He became Chief Minister for the first time from 1983 to 1985, then for the second time from 1985 to 1990, for the third time from 1993 to 1998, for the fourth time in 1998, then for the fifth time from 2003 to 2007, and for the sixth time from 2012 to 2017.
Virbhadra Singh contested from Mahasu Lok Sabha seat for the first time. Virbhadra Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1962, 1967, 1971, 1980, and 2009. At present, Virbhadra Singh was the MLA from Arki. Virbhadra Singh was the Union Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation from December 1976 to 1977 in the Indira Gandhi government.

For the second time also, he was the Union Minister of State for Industry from 1982 to 1983 in the Indira Government. After this, he took over as the Chief Minister in Himachal Pradesh in place of the then Chief Minister Thakur Ram Lal. Since then he has been active in state politics. Then Virbhadra Singh was a cabinet minister from 28 May 2009 to 18 January 2011 in the UPA government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He previously held the Steel Ministry.
After that, he was given the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Industries. Virbhadra Singh used to contest the assembly elections from the traditional seat Rohru. He could never contest from here as his home Rampur seat was unreserved. Rohru’s seat was also reserved due to re-delimitation, so in 2012 he contested from Shimla Rural seat. In 2017 he left this seat for his son Vikramaditya Singh and himself contested from Arki.
