Veteran actress Hema Malini doesn’t need any introduction. The lady who was a dream of almost every man during her time gave her heart to the ‘He-Man of Bollywood’ Dharmendra. The duo tied the knot under tense circumstances. But till today, this magical pair is going strong.
Recently, an old video of the actress-turned-politician with her daughters Esha and Ahana has surfaced online. In the clip which is from their appearance on Simi Garewal’s chat show, the trio is heard opening up on Dharmendra being an absentee father and his orthodox patriarchal mindset.
When Hema talked about Dharmendra’s absence as a father
Hema was asked to share her views on the importance of having a supportive husband. To this, she expressed that Dharmendra was not present during the growing-up years of their daughters. He never involved himself in any sort of decision-making because of his work commitments. She revealed that the 87-year-old actor always wanted Esha and Ahana to wear salwar kameez, which made the girls change their regular clothing whenever he came to meet them.
Esha, who was 17 at that time agreed with her mother and added that their father never liked them wearing sleeveless tops and short pants. She went on to share how their mother was their sole source of support.
As soon as the video went viral on social media, netizens began flocking to the comments section to pen their thoughts on the same. One user wrote, ‘Better to have no father than to have a father like him.’ Another commented, ‘Such a toxic husband and father.’ A third one penned, “As per sources, even his own daughters don’t speak to him. He married them in arranged marriage styles. But Bobby and Sunny were free to do what they wanted. And even him, who converted to another religion just to marry Hema!”
Dharmendra’s personal and professional life
Dharmendra is a father to six kids. He has sons Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and daughters Vijeeta and Ajeita from his first marriage with Prakash Kaur. Dharmendra has two daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol with Hema Malini who is his second wife.
On the work front, the veteran actor will appear next in Karan Johar’s directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
