Women Patrol The Nanda Devi Woods At 14,500 Feet For The First Time.

For the first time, two women forest inspectors and women forest guards have also joined for the supervision of forests and rare wildlife of Nanda Devi. Till now in Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, only male forest guards and forest constables were deployed here, who used to patrol long distances in the forest area, but now women forest inspectors and forest constables are also doing long distance patrolling in the forest area. They are not only performing duty here but crossing the high glaciers, collecting information about rare wildlife and forests.

Nanda Devi mountain is the second highest peak in India and the 23rd highest in the world. Nanda Devi mountain area situated between Gauriganga and Rishi Ganga valley in Chamoli district is situated at an altitude of 7817 meters. Due to the heterogeneous geographical situation, till now the male forest inspector and forest guard used to be ready to protect the forest and wildlife in the Nanda Devi Biosphere area, but from this year this responsibility has also been entrusted to the female forest officer and forest constable.

Last June, a team of the Forest Department went to Lata Khark, Bheta, Dharsi, and Saini Khark. Among the 12 members present in the team, three women also joined for the first time, including forest inspector Mamta Kanvasi, Durga Sati, and forest guard Roshni. Under the direction of Range Officer Chetna Kandpal, women forest inspector and forest constable were prepared for long-distance patrolling. The women forest officers along with the forest department team covered a distance of about 60 km. During this, he crossed high glaciers and foot trails.

Amit Kanwar, the Director / Conservator of Forests of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, said that in the first week of June, three teams of Nanda Devi National Park in different areas of rare wildlife, smuggling of herbs, hunting, illegal felling of trees, and encroachment. Went on long-distance patrol to inspect. Three women officers were also included in the second team’s 12 members. Women officers were included for the first time for long-distance patrolling in the National Park area. The team returned only after inspecting the high Himalayan region for a week.

Till now, women forest guards and forest guards were involved in short-distance patrolling in Nanda Devi National Park, for the first time women went on long-distance patrols. They saw rare wildlife and birds in the high Himalayan regions. They also inspected the forest area. Now women will also be included in long-distance patrol teams.
