World Storytelling Day and Happiness Day: Women inmates who celebrate life in a jail

Why are some  women inmates so happy despite being in jail? Tinka Tinka Foundation released a special episode of Tinka Tinka Jail Radio celebrating freedom of expression in an open jail in Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius. This  open jail in Mauritius became the centre of storytelling in the 59th  episode of  Tinka Tinka Jail Radio.  This was especially released on the occasion of World Storytelling Day and Happiness Day.

This podcast is based on Dr. Vartika Nanda’s visit to the Open Jail of Port Louis. Dr. Vartika Nanda is the founder of Tinka  Tinka Foundation. She is the only woman to visit the jail in Mauritius.  This visit helped in developing understanding and analyzing the living conditions in the prisons of Mauritius while comparing it to Indian jails.. The purpose was also to document the good practices in the jails of Mauritius. This episode is also dedicated to Mauritius Day which falls on 12th March. Several stories are written by Tinka Tinka Foundation on the jails of Mauritius, with reference to jails in Port Louis. Tinka Tinka Foundation has also expressed its gratitude to MEA, Government of India and all the officers associated with the prisons of Mauritius for making this possible.

Tinka Tinka Jail Radio podcasts are the only podcasts on Indian land dedicated to prison reforms in India.  Vartika Nanda has conceived these podcasts and is the storyteller. She is India’s leading prison reformer, with three authentic books on Indian prisons, to her credit. She is also the voice of Delhi Police and is the storyteller of their podcast series, Kissa Khaki Ka. She heads the Department of Journalism in Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.
