Zindagi Gulzar Hai Fame Sanam Saeed Feels Indians Are Unaware Of Pakistani Culture; Says, “We Grew Up On Bollywood”

In the past few years, TV shows of Pakistan have gained a lot of fame among Indian audiences. And it all began with Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed-starrer Zindagi Gulzar Hai. The show became an overnight sensation not just in its own nation but also in India when it got aired here in 2014.

Recently, Sanam got into an exclusive Indian publication where she talked about Indians don’t know much about the culture of Pakistan when the generations of the entire Pakistan has grown up on films and content from Bollywood. Saeed said that Indians have not got much exposure to the art and culture of Pakistan.

“Whole of Pakistan has been raised on Bollywood”: Sanam

On being asked about the kind of films she likes to watch, Sanam shared that though she is more of a Hollywood binge watcher, whole of Pakistan has been raised on Bollywood. She said that from her grandparents to the current generation, they all know Madhubala, Kareena Kapoor and now Deepika Padukone.

The actress quoted, “We have literally grown-up consuming Bollywood, the song, the dance, the culture, the way they eat, the way they do pooja. We know what happens in India but people there don’t know what happens in Pakistan.”

“There is a different way in which we eat dal chawal, the way we wear salwar kameez, or tie our hair. We know the difference between what an Indian choti (braid) is, but I don’t think India knows what the Pakistani choti is like. When ZEE Zindagi launched, India saw, ‘Oh this is how they wear their clothes, this is how they interact’, how independent women are here also. That was good to see,” she added.

For the unversed, Sanam Saeed started off as theatre artist, video jockey and model. She tasted stardom with Zindagi Gulzar Hai opposite Fawad Khan. The show was telecast in Pakistan in 2012.
