Group Captain Varun Singh Lost The Battle Of Life, Was Seriously Injured In A Helicopter Accident Along With CDS Rawat
Group Captain Varun Singh, who was injured in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, also passed away on Wednesday. He was part of a crew of 14 traveling in a helicopter with CDS General Bipin Rawat and was the only surviving Army officer in the accident.
His death has been confirmed by the Air Force. Indian Air Force has said in its tweet that it is very sad to inform you that the Group Captain passed away today during treatment. He was the only survivor of the accident on December 8, 2021.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted condoling his death. He has written that tribute to Group Captain Varun Singh. His service to the country cannot be forgotten by all. He served the nation with valor, utmost professionalism. My condolences to his family and friends.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also condoled his death. He has tweeted – Words cannot express the pain caused by the demise of IAF Pilot Group Captain Varun Singh. He was a true fighter, who fought till his last breath.
Group Captain Varun Singh is the nephew of Congress national spokesperson and former MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh. On 12 October 2020, Varun made a successful landing of the aircraft from an altitude of about ten thousand feet, despite the failure of the flying control system. For this, on August 15, the President honored him with the Shaurya Chakra. Varun’s uncle Akhilesh Pratap Singh said that the army officials have received information about Varun getting injured in the accident. God is being prayed for his speedy recovery.
Varun Singh was a resident of Deoria
Varun Singh was a resident of Kanholi village in Deoria. He was originally a fighter pilot. From 2007 to 2009, he had a posting in Gorakhpur. He used to fly a Jaguar fighter plane.
He was transferred from Gorakhpur to Hyderabad. Presently posted in Wellington, Tamil Nadu. CDS Rawat was to participate in the program of Defense Academy in Wellington, Captain was going with him, but the accident happened earlier.
