CDS General Bipin Rawat And His Wife Passed Away In A Helicopter Crash- Deets Inside

The big and sad news is coming from Tamil Nadu at this time. The Army’s MI-17 helicopter crashed in Kannur, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday afternoon in which a total of 14 people were on board.

Among those aboard, CDS Bipin Rawat was also riding with his wife. The news is coming from ANI that 13 out of 14 people have been confirmed dead, although the body is not being identified due to complete burns.

The identity of the dead bodies will be known only after DNA testing. The pictures from the accident site were very gruesome. The chopper was going from the Sulur IAF base to the Defence Services College (DSC) for an event at Wellington when it crashed. According to eyewitnesses, the plane first caught fire and then crashed.

According to media reports, Bipin Rawat was just 10 minutes away from the destination when this ill-fated incident took place. They were to participate in an event. Army Chief General MM Naravane briefs Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over the incident of the crash of a military chopper in Tamil Nadu, that was also carrying CDS Gen Bipin Rawat.

Who Was Bipin Rawat?

Bipin Laxman Singh Rawat was a four-star general of the Indian Army. He is the first and current Chief of Defence Staff of India. On 30 December 2019, he was appointed as the first CDS of India and assumed office from 1 January 2020.
