Suriya’s ‘Jai Bhim’ Caught In Legal Trouble, FIR Lodged Against Film-makers Under Copyright Act

South Superstar Suriya’s film ‘Jai Bhim’ has once again been embroiled in controversies. Chennai Police has registered an FIR against the director and producer of the film under the Copyright Act. The person who filed the FIR has alleged that in the film, the makers have shown the struggle of his life and have not even paid him royalty.

According to the report of DT Next published in HT, the complaint against the film has been filed by V Kulanjiyappan. The complainant claims that the character in the film is based on his life. The case has been registered by the Chennai Police after getting directions from the magistrate’s court. In his complaint at Chennai’s Shastri Nagar police station, Kulanjiyappan alleged that the makers showed his story in the film, but did not pay him any royalties and were allegedly promised to him. It has been informed in the report that FIR has been registered against the director of the film, TJ Gyanvel and the production house, 2D Entertainment, as per Section 63 (A) of the Copyright Act.

The complainant further said that the director of ‘Jai Bheem’ TJ Gyanvel met him at his home in January 2019 and asked for all the details regarding the 1993 incident. Kulanjiyappan says that he was promised Rs 50 lakh as royalty and a share in the profits. However, Kulanjiyappan has told that he has not received anything yet. Kulanjiyappan also alleged that the image of his community has suffered a lot because of the film. The makers have exploited the victims.

Let us tell you that this is not the first time that Jai Bhim has been embroiled in controversies. Earlier too, the Vanniyar Sangam community had sent legal notices to director TJ Gyanvel and actor Suriya for allegedly defaming their community in the film. Along with this, he also requested for forgiveness from the filmmaker and actor.
