In a significant victory for actress Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, renowned for her role as Mrs Roshan Sodhi in the beloved TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), the courts have ruled in her favour regarding allegations of sexual harassment against the show’s director, Asit Modi. Last year, Bansiwal courageously stepped forward, accusing Modi of sexual misconduct, which led to a formal FIR being filed against him.

Jennifer mentioned in ETimes, “The verdict is in my favour, confirming the allegations I made with strong evidence. This outcome surpasses what the police achieved in the past year.”

The recent court ruling, which came out on February 15, 2024, has mandated Modi to settle all outstanding payments owed to Bansiwal, alongside compensating her with ₹5 Lakh as restitution. Additionally, Modi has been instructed to pay an estimated total of ₹25-30 lakh, which includes the amount owed to Bansiwal and additional compensation for the ordeal she endured. However, despite the court’s decision, Modi has yet to fulfil his financial obligations, leaving Bansiwal still awaiting what is rightfully hers.

Jennifer had mixed feelings about the decision. She said; “I believe a woman’s reputation matters most. It’s been over 40 days, and I still haven’t received my due amount, which I earned through hard work on the serial (TMKOC). Despite proving Mr Modi guilty of sexual harassment, no punishment has been given to all three accused. Sohil and Jatin weren’t included in the verdict, which disappoints me. The local committee ordered my due amount, which I deserve. This verdict clears that my case was not fabricated, and I wasn’t seeking cheap publicity. While I’m glad my harassment was recognised, I don’t feel I’ve received proper justice yet.”
