Don 3 is all set to come to life. But instead of Shah Rukh Khan, it will be Ranveer Singh reviving the iconic role of Don. Here is why Shah Rukh Khan rejected the reprise of Don and we bet it’s not what you think.
Why Did Shah Rukh Khan Reject Don 3?
The director Farhan Akhtar began working on the Don 3 script during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through several meetings and discussions, he truly wanted to lock Shah Rukh Khan again for the cherished role. If reports are to be believed, Shah Rukh Khan didn’t feel as excited.
As per the source from Pinkvilla, ‘Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have had multiple detailed discussions with Shah Rukh on Don 3. Before the pandemic, a couple of ideas were also discussed, which took the shape of a script through the pandemic. Meetings have happened recently too, but Shah Rukh is not keen to get back as Don again at this point. He is willing to do commercial films that cater to a universal section of the audience, and Don certainly doesn’t fit the bracket of cinema that he is willing to do for the coming few years.’
The source also reveals that the team, including Farhan Akhtar, had a unique idea to unite the three generations of Don, threading Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and a rising star together and onscreen to narrate the rise of the character in the history of Hindi cinema.
The idea didn’t sit well with the King of Romance.
As per an earlier report from Bollywood Hungama, ‘It’s not like Shah Rukh Khan didn’t like the script. It’s just that Shah Rukh was not fully convinced. He knows Don is an iconic role and would like to step back into the character once he’s completely confident of the script.’
How Did Ranveer Singh Come On Board as Don in Don 3?
The Don 3 trailer is already out in which Ranveer Singh is seen in the shadows, taking a crack at some witty dialogues. The trailer ends with the signature music of the franchise with Ranveer letting go of a cigarette puff. As for the role of Roma Bhagat, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is in talks with the team. They are waiting for her green signal to start shooting.
When King Khan himself rejected the sequel, Ranveer Singh had multiple meetings with Farhan Akhtar before grabbing the role of the lead character. The revival of the popular franchise with a new face has already created a lot of hype and speculation. Understandably, Farhan was concerned that the audience may not accept a new face as Don. Shah Rukh Khan then had some discussions and managed to convince Akhtar that it would work. As per the report from Koi Moi, Shah Rukh Khan felt he had given his all to the first two franchises and now it’s someone else’s turn to take over.
Don 3 is set to hit theaters in 2025.
