Hardik Pandya Clarification Statement On His Seized Watch Case: Deets Inside
On Sunday customs officials seized two watches worth ₹5 crores from Hardik Pandya when he was returning from Dubai after India was eliminated in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The officials said that he neither had a bill for the watches nor did he declare them as custom items.
But contradictory to the custom Official statement Hardik Pandya issued a clarification on Tuesday regarding the seizure of two of his watches by the Mumbai customs department on Sunday night. Pandya said that he voluntarily went to the customs counter of the Mumbai airport to declare the items that he brought and pay the requisite customs duty. He also said that there was only one watch which cost 1.5 cr and not 5cr.
Hardik Pandya issued a statement on Twitter – “I voluntarily went to Mumbai airport customs counter to declare the items brought by me and pay the requisite customs duty. Wrong perceptions have been floating around on social media regarding my declaration to customs at Mumbai airport, and I would like to clarify what transpired. I had voluntarily declared all the items that I’d lawfully purchased from Dubai and was ready to pay whatever duties needed to be paid. The customs department had asked for all purchase documents which were submitted; however customs is doing the proper valuation for duty which I’ve already confirmed to pay,” he said.
The cost of the watch is approximately ₹ 1.5 crore and not ₹ 5 crores as per the rumors floating around on social media. I’m a law-abiding citizen of the country and I respect all government agencies. I’ve received all the cooperation from the Mumbai customs department and I’ve assured my full cooperation to them and will provide them with whatever legitimate documents they need to get this matter cleared. All allegations against me of crossing any legal boundaries are unfounded,” he added.
