Is The Covishield Neutralized On The Delta Variant?

Antibodies against the delta variant (B1.617.2) of the coronavirus were not found in 16.1 percent of samples of people who had received both doses of the Covishield vaccine, a new study has claimed. It further said that 58.1 percent of the samples of people who were given a single dose of the Covishield vaccine did not show antibodies.

This study indicates that some people in India may need an additional booster dose of Covishield. The study also found that the tritase of antibodies made from the vaccine, which targets and eliminates the coronavirus, was lower in India during the first wave of the delta variant compared to the B1 strain.

Antibody titers against the delta variant were 78 percent lower in people who had received a single dose of the vaccine compared to the B1 variant of the corona. At the same time, it was 69 percent less in those taking both doses. Among those who had been infected, antibody titers were found to be 66 percent lower in those taking one dose and 38 percent in those taking both doses.

A scientist on a government committee dealing with Covid-19 pandemic modeling has said that the third wave of coronavirus could peak between October-November if appropriate COVID-19 practices are not followed. But, during this period half of the daily cases recorded during the second wave can be seen.

Manindra Agarwal, working on the ‘formula model’ or mathematical estimation of Covid, said that if a new form of the virus arises, the third wave can spread rapidly. The Department of Science and Technology had last year constituted a committee to predict the increase in cases of corona infection using mathematical models.

Besides Agarwal, a scientist from IIT Kanpur, the committee also includes scientist M Vidyasagar from IIT Hyderabad and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defense Staff (Medical) Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar. This committee also faced criticism for not predicting the exact nature of the second wave of coronavirus infection.
